"That's when I realized that writing for children combined my three favorite things to do: writing stories, drawing, and reading!" -Laura Numeroff
About Laura...
Laura Numeroff was born in 1953 in Brooklyn, New York. Growing up Laura was surrounded by books, music and art. She loved to write stories as a little girl and would illustrate them as well. She attended Pratt Institute where she majored in Fashion Design and hated it. She ended up taking a writing class where she had to write and illustrate her own children's book. Numeroff made several attempts to get her children's book published. After only 4 rejections, Macmillan bought it and she graduated college and had a contract for her first book, Amy For Short. The book was published in 1975, right before she graduated.
When she first started writing, she wrote and illustrated her books. After her first 9 books, her editor recommended Felicia Bond who then illustrated If You Give a Mouse a Cookie which became her 10th book. She is most famous for her If You Give... Series but has many other books as well. Including; Sometimes I Wonder If Poodles Like Noodles, The Chicken Sister, What Mommies Do Best and many others. Today Numeroff has wrote over 30 books and still continues to do what she loves.
Numeroff and Bond were both invited to the White House for Laura Bush's Celebrate American Authors event and was honored for the If You Give... Series. She won the follow awards as well for the series:
-California Young Reader Medal-1988
-Colorado Children’s Book Award-1988

-Nevada Young Readers’ Award-1989
